I discovered a talent for drawing at age 70, and my art quickly became an all-consuming passion to create animal portraits that capture their personalities and spirits...and your imagination! Whether your favorites are dogs, cats, horses, cattle, birds, or wild creatures of the woodland, mountains, jungles, or sky, I create portraits that draw you in, instilling memories or fantasies.
My animal portraits are entirely hand-drawn, using reference photos that you provide. I use several media, primarily colored pencil and watercolor. I use a variety of surfaces for my art, depending on the medium, your goals, and the reference photos of your pet. Pricing is dependent on your requests. As an example, a 9"x12" colored pencil head portrait of one dog is $400.
In my spare time, I enjoy photography (often capturing the subjects of my portraits), hiking in the Blue Ridge mountains surrounding our home, my hammered dulcimer, and the art and music of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our pet Doberman Pincher is rarely far from our sides.
